One Response to Brandon Warne’s Poorly Produced Podcast Project: Episode 6 “What’s a Legitimate Criticism of Joe Mauer?”

  1. Grant Smith says:

Episode 6 Joe Mauer. My issues revolve around the injuries, $$$, and maybe most importantly, a leadership role.

He definitely loses offensive productivity when trying to “play through” the injuries, so at times he sits (thus no offensive productivity). Some productivity, I guess, is better than none.

Because this seems to be happening more and more often – and age will do this, is he really worth the $$$ that are spent on him – which, btw, causes our conservative owners to spend literally no $$$ on a “supporting cast”, or even a reasonable sub for him while he is out.

My analogy would be Kevin Garnet and the T-wolves. Too much money to one player, nothing left for complimentary players. I would venture to say, year in and year out, Kevin was probably a more consistent producer than Joe.

As for leadership, he falls way short for a higher paid veteran in this league. Joe Mauer the face of the Twins? No way, never! Bring back Cuddyer for this role. Joe is a terrible interview, when he gives one. As mentioned b4, his productivity drops significantly (to zero when he is out), with seemingly minor injuries. From what I have heard, he has a terrible work ethic, he spends no extra time around the field working through stuff, and does not spend any time with fellow players around the clubhouse shooting the breeze or just talking baseball.

Sorry, time to cut ties. A conservative Twins organization will be better off, and any team that gets Joe will benefit with his OBP.
