Today’s unpopular opinion is in regards to the batter/pitcher splits that have been quoted ad nauseam throughout this playoffs.
“Batter/pitcher splits mean utterly nothing. Literally, nothing. At least in the scope of a single pitcher versus a single batter.”
I get the idea that certain hitters can scuffle against certain types of pitchers, or certain pitches of the same handedness, but don’t tell me that Joe Mauer is 1 for 12 lifetime against Alfredo Simon – theoretically – and expect me to think it means anything at all whatsoever.
