Briefly…(quick update re: Gavin Floyd at 11:20am)

Good late morning to you all.

As promised, I have a link to my Mike Moustakas column here. Let me know what you think; I don’t write a lot about prospects and am really trying to hone my craft there.

Tonight the Twins face the White Sox and Gavin Floyd. Floyd had a 4.08 ERA last season, but against the Twins: 0-4, 2.10 WHIP, 8.06 ERA, and a triple-slash against of .379/.436/.579 (1.015 OPS). Seems like a good chance for the local nine to continue rolling.

Tonight or tomorrow I’ll submit my debut column for Maury Brown’s Biz of Baseball, entitled “The Neverending Shuttle from Rochester.” I’m really looking forward to see the reception for it.

Today’s music selection of the day (language warning):

Another thing I’m going to add into the mix, perhaps to provoke discussion, or maybe just to get this out there, is the “Random BW thought of the day.” More often than not, it’ll probably be pretty dumb.

Today’s: The way Bret Hart was used in WCW was a real shame.

Today’s discussion question:

Most of you know by now I’m a big triple-slash guy (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage). As of this exact second, Alexi Casilla checks in at .263/.325/.343. Where will he finish the season?

My guess would be .265/.335/.340, which would be passable.

  1. I don’t think Casilla finishes that high. But for your sake, I hope I’m wrong.

agreed on all counts, WilliaminMaine. Casilla has been on a tear lately, and it was sorely needed. However, we’ve seen Casilla for a long time and he hasn’t quite shown this level of competence.

Although, I guess you have to consider that this slash line output counts the terrible start, so he can regress from his last month and still put up these numbers…
